The FIFA Knock Out Cup Fixtures are now available on this website, find attached the finalised Knock-Out Cup fixtures.
Clubs are reminded that only registered players are permitted to play in the knockout cup competition. Players must have played throughout the season and are CUP TIED as soon as they play for a team in a qualifying final. They are then ineligible to play for another team.
Visiting members from our CCJSA teams are reminded that only those players named on your team list submitted to the LNJSA are eligible to play in the LNJSA Knockout Cup Competition
KNOCK-OUT CUP Rules
1. The first mentioned team is responsible for setting up of the pitch, referee and match card. Non-Busselton-based teams are reminded that they HAVE TO SET UP, REFEREE AND PROVIDE MATCH CARD IN BUSSELTON IF THEY HAVE BEEN DRAWN FIRST!
2. The game will be played for the regular duration of a match (either 60 min – U11’s/U13’s or 70 min – U15’s/YL Girls/YL Boys).
3. Quarter Finals and Semi Finals - If there is a DRAW after the regular playing time, a penalty shoot-out will determine the winner of the match.
4. Grand Final – If there is a Draw after the regular playing time, 2 x 10 mins extra time will be played. If after playing extra time the game is still a draw, a penalty shoot out will determine the winner of the match.
5. Penalty shoot-out rules: Only players that were on the pitch after extra time are eligible to take a penalty (substitute players are not to take part in the penalty shoot-out!). The following rules apply to a penalty shoot-out:
(a) The starting team is determined by throwing the coin!
(b) Selected five players from each team take ONE shot each, alternating between the teams.
(c) If there is still a draw, additional players will take shots, alternating between the team until one player prevails.
(d) If there is still a draw after all eleven players have taken a penalty, the first five players will be invited to take a second shot, alternating between the team until one player prevails.
(e) Keepers are eligible to take penalties.
(f) Only the keeper and the penalty taker are allowed in the penalty area.
6. If there is a penalty shoot-out, the following game(s) will start with a delay. Players and coaches are reminded to be aware of this!
7. No referee points need to be allocated after the games. The match card is required to ascertain that only registered players that played throughout the season participate in the game.
8. A squad is to be limited to 17 players per game (a maximum of SIX substitute players are permitted).
Here are also some interesting observations about the draw:
In several competitions, teams that ended up in the middle of the league table have a great chance to play in the final. This is good for the competition!
- There will be two club derbies U11 (Dunsborough) and YL Girls (MR)
- In the U11 competition, there is a good possibility that the league winners will play the runners-up in the final.
- In the U13 ChL there will be a top clash between the League winner and the 3rd placed team in the quarter finals. A final between the league winners and runners-up is possible.
- In the U13 PL, the top three league teams will eliminate each other by the semis. In the quarter finals, league runners-up will play the 3rd placed team, the winner of this encounter has to face the league winners in the semi final. Therefore, a lower ranked team will have the chance to make it into the final.
- In the U15 competition, the league runners-up will play the 3rd placed team in the quarter finals. A final between the league winners and runners-up is possible.
- In the YL Girls competition, there is a likely clash between the league winners and runners-up in the semi final, giving a lower ranked team a chance to play in the final.
- In the YL Boys competition, the top three teams will eliminate each other by the semis. In the quarter final, the league winners will play the 3rd placed team. The winner of this match will most likely play the league runners-up in the semi final. This will give a lower ranked team the chance to play in the final.

MR River United 1 drew Vasse United 1
United travelled to Busselton on this beautiful warm spring day to play for the 2010 Youth League crown against second placed Vasse. With a one point advantage, the team knew a draw would be enough to give Margaret River the title for the first time since 2004. The team missed keeper Alex Williams, otherwise the squad was complete.
The opinions before the game whether to play defensively or offensively were divided. The coach decided to play a strong midfield, pressing early and trying to play over the wings. This strategy worked well early in the game. Margaret River settled down and put pressure on Vasse’s backline, recording three shots on target in the first six minutes.
Vasse however had the best scoring opportunity in the 7th minute just missing the goal. In the 9th minute, Benjamin Smith ran away from his marker on the right wing and scored a goal that was disallowed due to off-side. Only three minutes later, a long goal kick by Jake Graebner-Bond found Mehdi Balkhi in midfield. His immediate pass reached the forward darting Benjamin through the legs of an unfortunate Vasse central defender.
Vasse 5 v Dunsborough 2
With the League Premiers up for grabs we were keen to play well early and get the first to take the pressure off a little. This didn’t take long to happen as Matthew House put one in two minutes on the clock.
Unfortunately Dunsborough were short a player or two which didn’t help their movement forward but on the other hand if we played to the game plan there was going to be plenty of opportunities. By the fifteen minute mark Matt had a hat-trick of goals and we were looking good with players sharing the ball around to the advantage of others.
Austin, Jye and Billy were in total control down back and once they had control of the ball they were setting it up well. Jack who was having a run up forward scored just before half time to give us a four goal lead at the half.
St Joes Mackillop 6 vsVasse Hawks 1
A much awaited top of the table clash between St Joes Mackillop U11’s and Vasse Hawks U11’s did not disappoint fans on Saturday with the prize being Premiership League Champions for 2010. St Joes have a reputation for disciplined attacking moves and opened up with two early goals in the first 10 minutes of play.
Vasse star defender Sam Patton was under pressure with wave after wave of determined St Joes strikers led by best on ground Will Culnane hammering the goal area. Goalkeeper Tyler Atkinson hit his straps and nullified many goal scoring opportunites throughout the first half. The second half had Vasse hold their shape with gun forward Tait Spowart powering forward on a number of occasions but unable to convert. However, it was golden boot Ethan Piggott who belted through a shoulder high bomb just inside the penalty area to gain some respectability for the beleaguered Vasse team.
First year player Olivia Rynvis and a much improved Mitch Snow and Somer Palandri fought like demons all day but St Joes had the edge over the young Vasse side.
The final score line was 6 - 1 to St Joes , a well deserved win for the Premiership League Champions 2010. Congratulations.
Wow! What a game for GMAS United on Saturday. With the regular coach away the boys were under the guidance of Mr. Graeme Sly as we took on Busselton – a team that had a few of our old teammates in it.
United were rightfully excited when we scored the first goal of the match, you wouldn’t have seen many bigger smiles anywhere in Busselton! A few of the Mum’s even did a little jig on the sidelines…
With a game plan drawn up by Alcorn’s dad the boys were excited. They played brilliantly and have really started to gel as a team, playing to each other’s strengths, and being willing to offer support to each other when required.
We will be sad to lose Hall and Wood back to U/11’s for the finals, but anything is possible now that we are well and truly UNITED!
Dunsborough Slayers vs. MR Hammers
The Slayers travelled to Margaret River to take on the Hammers. It was a lovely day but there was plenty of dew on the grass prior to kick-off. Also there was not the atmosphere of our last visit when all fields were a buzz of activity – this time there was only a few games of 10/U to be played.
This did not dampen the enthusiasm of the players however. The Slayers went through a good pre-game warm up and began the game at good pace. Before some spectators had sipped their coffee and realised the game was under way Joel burst forward and got an early goal for the Slayers.
The Hammers lifted from this point on and were able to counter the majority of Slayer pushes forward. The Hammers also pushed the ball in their attack and some lovely footwork by a few players proved too hard to stop for the Slayers defenders on several occasions. They were able to get a few shots past Tayla in goals. Before the end of the first half Melat had yet another ball played well in front of her and worked onto the ball before a lovely strike with the right boot found the target.
FMR Munchkins versus Dunsborough Quindas
What a great match up, Margaret River Munchkins versus Dunsborough Qunidas. Every week the Munchkin talent shines brighter. Some may think Munchkin means small, but after this weekend’s effort spectators will realise the team’s name is derived from them munching up the opposition.
Girl power Lily Mondy, Lizy Wilkie and Ashley Jarvis showed their natural talent playing football while doing the “Dance like an Egyptian”. Girls just want to have fun! Jaxon Deighton and Huon House were strong and persistent in attack. While Jack Hammer Holzer and Casey Castle were unflinching in defence. Thank you to Dunsborough for supplying the extra players.
It goes to prove there is no I in TEAM.
Vasse Hawks v GMAS Roos
This week the Vasse Hawks played GMAS Roos in Busselton. The Hawks were switched on again this week and ran exceptionally hard for the entire match.
The Hawks’ teamwork is getting better every week with plenty of communication and every player getting plenty of kicks. Oli was well focussed in offence this week, Amy never stopped running, Zach and Hannah were very reliable as always and Finn and Mackenzie had their fair share of the action.
With only one match remaining this season it is great to see that Coach Sandra’s hard work has paid off. The Hawks are now a cohesive, enthusiastic team happy to take on any challenge with gusto.
Bunbury Dynamos 4 def Margaret River United 3
Emotions ran high on last Saturday’s game that started so well in the warm spring sunshine and ended in a dramatic finish in rain. The home side had a near complete squad only missing Jacob Connell due to illness. It was a very intensive and even encounter with a dramatic finish that was watched by a good crowed of about one hundred people.
Bunbury enjoyed slightly greater possession, Margaret River dominated from set pieces. With no referee available to direct this top of the table clash, 15 year old German exchange student Simon Deuring volunteered for the job. He was very scrupulous with his decisions, handing out five yellow cards and making good use of the whistle – an insistent and refreshing approach! The team was very thankful for his service.
Bunbury started well into the game. In the second minute a corner kick caused problems in United’s defence, a pattern that was to be the downfall for the team. In the 6th minute, Mehdi Balkhi received a precise goal kick by keeper Alex Williams. Mehdi darted forward then playing a perfect through ball to Sam Connell. Sam outran his marker, controlled the ball, waited for the keeper to come out and put the ball into the back of the net with precision.
Dunsborough Slayers vs. GMAS Teal
The Slayers second last home game was against a strong GMAS Teal outfit. GMAS played at a fast tempo from the off and the Slayers were really tested all over the ground. With poor Jake at home sick the rest of the team knew they were going to be going hard for the full 50 minutes. The Slayers began with the successful defensive line up from their previous game.
Emily was working hard in goal again and the defenders were up to the task for most of the first half. At the other end Melat was looking to push the ball forward on the break. The GMAS defenders were fast and determined and beyond them as a last resort was a very quick thinking and positive g/k. It must be said he foiled many opportunities for the Slayers to get a shot off by being positive and coming at the ball.
The Slayers defenders worked hard and our goalie’s both did well but GMAS were able to sneak a few in the net. The play through the mid-field was very competitive and both teams worked hard to control the ball and play it through to find good targets. Several times the Slayers pushed forward only to see a shot take a deflection or pass just wide of the upright.
Dunsborough Warriors vs the Busselton Nipsters
In a match up that at times resembled a mud-bath, the Warriors took on the Nipsters on their home field.
In the first half, the Warriors held a solid defence led by Martha (goalie), Miller and Zack. While in the second half, Alex replaced Marta as goalie. The Warriors were strong through the mid-field with the ever active trio of Tommy, Curran and Alex. Heberet filled the position of striker with tenacity, trying to poke holes in the Nipster defence by cheating forward. Ryan and Luca added their strong style of play into the mix.
The Nipsters displayed speed and agility which the Warriors met with teamwork and hard defensive challenges. Slips and slides notwithstanding, it was a fine game of football.
Congratulations players!
Vasse Hawks vs Capel
This week the Vasse Hawks played Capel in Capel.
The Hawks were very switched on this week and were enthusiastic from the get go. Each player got a kick early, which made for some confident play.
Every player was full of energy and it showed as the Hawks peppered the goals in the first match. Oli displayed his experience with excellent offensive play and solid defence. Zac and Hannah were ever-present in the midfield and young-guns Mackenzie, Amy and Finn were in on the action getting plenty of kicks.
It was great to see the team working so well together, sharing the ball around and communicating well. The manner in which the team “clicked” this week is a good sign for the remaining few games of the season.
MR Munchkins versus GMAS Grasshoppers
Round 13 saw close to a full complement of Munchkins back on the pitch and they had a picnic amongst the Grasshoppers.
Ashley Jarvis played with all the flair we’ve come to enjoy and was rightly awarded Munchkin of the match, but everyone played brilliantly. Jaxon Deighton was Mr Determination, more than once winning the ball and pushing through a plague of Grasshoppers to score. Mikey Jeffs was everywhere in defence and made a massive contribution, while Huon House ran his legs off in support.
Jasper ‘The Rock’ Hillman and Jack ‘Hammer’ Holzer both put in a big effort to get the team through. Last but not least Munchettes Lily Mondy and Lizy Wilkie were tenacious but smiles all game and had a lot of fun.
The Grasshoppers played a very stylish game and the competition was a pleasure to watch. Well done Munchkins!

Dunsborough Quindas vs SJMSC Joeys
This week the Quindas met the Joeys in an impressive rematch. The teams were evenly matched and all players displayed amazing confidence and concentration in their games. Coach Geoff found that the focus on kicking skills and passing in practice paid off and he was pleased with the energy that his athletes brought to the field.
One squad featured the big kicking Molly, Rueben, and Blake and the finesse footwork of Ella. Two scorching shots on goal by Rueben and Blake were denied by the quick-thinking Joey, Thomas, who showed off his budding goalie talents by diving into the goal to save each of them.
The other squad featured Eva, Misty, Samora, Max and Dan. This quintet had an upbeat and determined style of play that wowed the onlookers. They displayed quick dribbling skills and even some passing!
A big thanks to the coaches and refs. Well done Quindas and Joeys-- the level of play inspired smiles all around.
MR United 4 def Dunsborough 0
Margaret River United welcomed Dunsborough on Saturday morning without key players Benjamin Smith, Scott Guthrie-Phelps, Mitchell Winstanley and Aaron Locke. The visitors in blue started very strong and United struggled to get the upper hand. Henry Rogers played an outstanding game in defensive midfield. Midfield combinations with Harry Hick, Sam Connell and Mehdi Balkhi were the strengths of the Margaret River game, closing the gaps and not allowing Dunsborough into the game.
Jacob Connell and Oscar Howse rotated to close down Dunsborough’s dangerous forward Tim Nigg and they did a very effective job. In the 5th minute, a Harry Hick shot just missed the crossbar. Dunsborough hit back with a great counter attack, superbly saved by Alex Williams in United’s goal. In the 22nd minute, Mehdi Balkhi received the ball and fired from outside the box. His attempt slipped through the gloves of the unlucky Dunsborough’s keeper to give the home side the lead.
Dunsborough moved quickly after the kick-off and were unlucky not to level the score. In the 26th minute, winger Sam Connell crossed into the box, but Mehdi’s header flew just over the bar. Substitute forward Dan Raymond had a fantastic game. In the 27th minute he outran his opponent on the left wing. His cross found Sam who composedly slotted home the second goal for United.

VASSE 3 drew with CORNERSTONE 3
With the loss to Dunsborough last week we were keen to come out and play good soccer right from the start. As with these early games it took a little while for both teams to settle before there were shots on goal from both sides. Vasse were getting into position well but not able to finish. To the credit of both goalies there were some great saves as the ball was moving fast from one end to the other. It took until the 20th minute before Louis found the back of the net with a solid strike. Two minutes later Cornerstone scored to level the contest and that’s the way it stayed as half time came.
The second half started at the same pace as the first finished – FAST and within 5 minutes Cornerstone scored to give them the lead but four minutes later Shayden took a corner and scored with a fantastic strike. A little while later our goalie Joel Fraser who was playing a blinder had to leave the line to repel yet another Cornerstone attack which left the goal open and with the Vasse defenders unable to get the ball out an own goal resulted. We were down by a goal with 20 minutes to play. Both sides pushed hard to score with some great attempts but to no avail. With a couple of minutes to go Jebesh Mills slotted one to give Vasse the equalizer !!
Well done to both sides for a fine display of soccer played in good spirits. Best players for Vasse were Louis White in attack, Jye Schlesiger who worked hard one on one against Cedric and Joel Fraser on the goal line.
Dunsborough Slayers vs. Busselton Lions
As coach I am absolutely ecstatic with today’s game. The team displayed a great range of skills and awareness of each other and the space on offer. Hats off to both teams for playing the beautiful game.
The Slayers travelled to Busselton to take on the Lions. The team was once again at full strength and the players went through a solid pre-match preparation and warm-up. Both squads lined up at mid-pitch for the formalities and then got into position for kick-off.
Emily was making her debut in goals for the Slayers. She had done some solid preparation at training and pre-match. The early going revealed the strength in defence by both teams. Sabrina marshalled the back line for Dunsborough to good effect. Along with Baxter and Ashlea they proved to be very difficult to get past for a shot. Across mid-field the Slayers had Donaiya through the middle for direction and Joel and Indiah with speed on each side. Baxter was regularly clearing the ball and linking up with Indiah down the right side.
Dunsborough Quindas vs. Capel Wolves
The Quindas travelled to Busselton to square off against the Wolves. Coach Geoff was eager to see his players dribble the ball. This half of the Quindas showed some good kicking skills and passing. Samora showed some good skills to dribble past opponents. Seb showed good ball control and deliberate passing. Molly was not afraid to get in to challenge for the ball and kick into space. Misty provided the team with enthusiasm and good defending.
Bravo to all players for good football.
Vasse Hawks V SJMSC Joeys
This week the Vasse Hawks played the SJMSC Joeys at Churchill Park. The Hawks had plenty of players this week and made the most of having fresh legs on the bench. With both teams quite evenly matched all players got plenty of the action in a fast offensive game.
Following a clever pre-game speech by coach Sandra all the players were switched on. Jevon had his silky smooth skills on display and Oli and Zac found the goals early. Hannah was right in the mix and Amy made some very important defensive stops. Mackenzie bravely returned from injury to get right amongst the play.
Much improved teamwork this week was a positive sign for the Hawks who were rewarded with an enjoyable game.
MR United 3 def Australind Lions 0
Margaret River United undertook the long drive to Australind with a near complete squad of 20 players. Before kick-off news came in that closest rival Vasse had lost to GMAS. This was a huge boost to the team. On request of captain Mat Kevill and vice-captain Benjamin Smith, permission was sought from the excellent referee for the team to play with black arm bands as a tribute to Charlie, Oscar’s dog and good companion of the team.
The game featured two very distinct halves. The first half was yet another scrappy affair with Australind having the better scoring opportunities. The second half was then dominated by the team in yellow. Australind started sharper in the tackles and hungrier for the ball. In the 6th minute, a superb distance shot hit the Margaret River crossbar. In the 9th minute the Australind keeper kicked the ball deep into the midfield. The ball was intercepted by Sam Connell. He played an excellent through-pass to Mehdi Balkhi who outran his marker.
Mehdi’s clever loop ball over the advancing keeper resulted in the visitors taking the lead. Sam was again the inspirational midfield play maker. United recorded another four equally strong runs, most of them using fast right winger Aaron Locke; however it was Australind that started to lock in the Margaret River team.
