As you all know I just got back from A great experience working with some of the top teams in Holland. I was invited to work with Ajax Amsterdam, PSV Eindhoven, NAC Breda en Willem II Tilburg. I was working seven days a week spend 4 days with the junior Academy’s and 3 days with the professionals.
I had the pleasure to work very closely with all the coaches include the 1st team coaches. I did not expect that they let me work very closely even sometimes a one on one training analysing session with Marco van Basten( was one of the greatest players in the world). I was even part of two experiments, conducted by Ajax en PSV and the University of Amsterdam. I learned heaps and was great for my personnel development.
Offside is one of the most controversial rules in the game with much debate over decisions - mainly due to the fact that a player caught offside is often denied a clear goal scoring opportunity.
In many cases, only the assistant referee is in a position to see the offside offense and even spectators with a close but different angle of the play are not in a position to accurately judge.
It is therefore very important that all assistant referees (linesmen) are aware of the Offside rule and the correct technique for running the line (being level with the last player) in order to correctly rule on this matter.
But is it also important for players, coaches and parents to respect the decision of the linesmen, understand the rule and also volunteer to help run the line for your team if confident to officiate.

Dunsborough Wolves v Vasse Hawks
Round 3’s game vs the hawks was defensive battle, with the only two goals coming in the last two minutes of play. Prior to the game I set three team goals and gave each player a special job for the game. The team was asked to play their assigned positions, pass the ball and go for runs on throw ins. The team responded well to the challenge of playing without Matt & Luca.
Ollie lead the attack in the middle and centred the ball to Heberet, Lindsey & Charlie creating a number of scoring opportunities. The coach noticed Ollie’s improved awareness on the field.
Jayden anchored the right defence; maintaining his position all game and keeping the ball clear of the front of the net. It was great to see the confidence that Jayden displayed on the field.
Flynn was assigned the left defender and was asked to help out in attack when he could. Flynn worked hard at both end of the grounds, hustled back to help out on defence and scored his first goal of the season.
Dunsborough Slayers V GMAS Cyclones
Despite a heavy downpour earlier in the day conditions were pretty much ideal when the Slayers kicked off against the Cyclones. The Slayers were tasked before play began to remember to maintain good spacing and play the ball deliberately.
In the first half Donaiya was in goals having arrived just in time from a ballet exam. Her instructions were to be positive and assertive any time the ball came near. As the half wore on it was clear she had listened well. Many times she went at the attacker, even leaving her area to clear the ball. What really inspired her team-mates was seeing her take the ball out of the area herself to gain some distance before laying balls off to team-mates in space in the mid-field.
