Off Side Explained

Offside is one of the most controversial rules in the game with much debate over decisions - mainly due to the fact that a player caught offside is often denied a clear goal scoring opportunity.

In many cases, only the assistant referee is in a position to see the offside offense and even spectators with a close but different angle of the play are not in a position to accurately judge.

It is therefore very important that all assistant referees (linesmen) are aware of the Offside rule and the correct technique for running the line (being level with the last player) in order to correctly rule on this matter.

But is it also important for players, coaches and parents to respect the decision of the linesmen, understand the rule and also volunteer to help run the line for your team if confident to officiate.
