Margaret River Strikers 4 v Dunsborough 2
On a beautiful Autumns day the Strikers played host to a Dunsborough team that had a very impressive victory the previous week, so the whole squad knew they were in for a fierce contest. The following seventy minutes showed what depth of talent we have here in the South West, as both sides showed fantastic skill and team play.
It really was end to end stuff and was great entertainment for the supporters from both teams. It was going to take something special to break the deadlock and that is what happened, as Jayden Stammers made a penetrating run from the defence and laid a great pass to Kelby Guthrie Phelps who beat his opponent and squared it inside to Sol Masters, who curled it into the corner of the net. This was followed up very quickly by another great piece of individual play from Jayden Stammers who curled a shot in from a corner.

Margaret River Gremlins v Margaret River Goblins
The Margaret River Gremlins and the Margaret River Stars had a great game on saturday.
All the players had lots of fun on the field in the sunshine with plenty of enthusiasm and some good skills shown by all.
Gremlins players of the day were Billy Blackburn and Evan Favazzo.
The Stars players of the day were Jagar Amedi and Mia Botha.

Margaret River Goblins v Margaret Rover Gremlins
The 7’s Goblins played the Groms in the local derby at Margaret River on the weekend. The boys have been training hard and all the skills were on show during the game.
Huon House was strong in attacking the goals, and Jack Holzier was excellent in defence. Jaxon Deighton made a hat trick and continued his good form from last week. Zahn Johnston dominated the mid field, Rayan Amedi showed his powerful kicking style.
Lleyton Brooks was working hard all over the pitch and Timon Bonelli showed his flair on the ball. Kalani Waterer showed some fast turns of speed and accurate passing.

Dunsborough Predators- 2 v FMR Dragons- 5
Awesome playing conditions in Dunsborough allowed for a great display of football and these teams fought out an epic battle.
The Dragons had the early field position and it was Brendan Clark who put pressure on the keeper from a throw in to put the visitors’ ahead early. The Dragons soon added another when Kai Grabner-Bond beautifully controlled a clearance ball from Margaret Rivers’ defence and a quick through ball saw Riley Demunari coolly slot the ball on his left foot past the keeper.
Dunsborough were far from out of the contest and their pressure finally told when Conor Wolfman pounced on a loose ball to finish a great strike passed the Dragons last line. He repeated the dose a short time later which had the game locked up at half time.
Margaret River Raiders 0 V Capel Wolves 8
The second game of the season saw the Raiders come up against a strong and well drilled Wolves team. Wolves began stronger and put immediate pressure on our back line.
Their experience of the bigger pitch showed with them taking an early 2 goal advantage.
Raiders centre backs Liam Mattinson and Angus Dowding (players award) worked hard against the Wolves attack, but couldn’t stop them increasing the lead before the break.
The half time talk was about more talk and pressure on both player and ball from all the Raiders. The players took this to the pitch and with a few position changes put in spirited performance . Claudia Jakovich (players award) didn’t stop running and combined well with Caleb Smirke in the middle.
Vasse 5 V Dunsbourough 0
The much awaited first game for Vasse Eagles was played in sunshine. Unfazed by the delayed start time a fairly even contest emerged with both sides playing solid passages of play.
The Vasse defenders led by Somer proved to be a great team. Tobie opened vasses scoring in the first half,which spurred on Dunsborough to have some great attempt on goals only to be denied every time by goalie Tyler.
After halftime the eagles stepped up with great team work by all especially Tate Tobie and Ethan four more found the net.
Midfield jaxon was like a terroir nipping at the heels of any dunsborough player with the ball.
Dunsborough never gave up pushing Vasse the entire game Well done vasse eagles a great first game,with all players doing very well, man of the match was Tobie
FMR Marlins v GMAS Cyclones
The Marlins were keen to start their second game of the season. They looked fantastic with their new jackets and uniforms.
They played some great soccer to start the match, the midfield of Jace, Sol and Annika were winning lots of tackles and providing the forwards James and Jim with lots of shots at goal. Carla made a great run on goal but was tackled just before shooting.
Jim scored a great goal after pressuring the GMAS defence and the Marlins went into half time full of confidence. Molly made some important saves in the Marlins goal when required and passed the ball out to our defenders really well.
At half time the Marlins talked about keeping our positions and passing around the GMAS team. Those instructions were executed perfectly in the second half and the team started to grow in confidence and move the ball around.
The second game of the season for the Margaret River Groms & Grems saw a home derby against the Goblins & Urchins in perfect conditions. The Groms & Grems showed how all the hard work in training is paying off with a fine display against much larger opposition.
The first game saw two great goals from out wide by Daniel Heyes with Salli Howden-Woodland adding a third. Lana Spencer was impossible to beat at the back and Maya Scott was superb in midfield.
In the second game Drew McMahon covered every blade of grass and was unlucky not to score goal of the season after a great passing move which involved every team member.
Great defence by Beau Seisun and Mischa Quadrio and a brilliant individual effort by Jayden Todd finished off a couple of awesome games.
Well Done. Players of the week this week are Lana and Jayden.
FMR Marlins v Vasse Falcons
The Marlins first game of the season was anticipated by players and parents alike!!!
The Vasse Falcons provided a stern test and the Marlins started brightly and even though there were a few first time players they soon settled helped by an early goal from Sol, a superb long range effort. Alex, Angus and Tomo provided solid defence.
James went in goal for the first half and he made one unbelievably brave save which unfortunately resulted in injury which meant Alex had to take the gloves. Sol was everywhere and combined well with Annika and Jace in midfield to keep the ball for Marlins and feed Jim and Molly in attack as the Marlins put the Falcons under pressure.

Margaret River Strikers 6 v GMAS 0
There was a buzz in the air on the first day of the 2012 Soccer season, as months of training was now going to be put to the test in the first game, fielding mostly 16 year olds and facing a lot bigger opposition, the Strikers may have felt a bit daunted by what was in front of them, but they needn’t have worried, as the crisp passing and movement of this Margaret River team had the GMAS chasing shadows, and proved why they were winners and went unbeaten in the League last year.
It wasn’t long before the Strikers took the lead through a well taken goal by Kelby Guthrie Phelps and you thought that this was going to be a big score line but the solid goal keeping of the GMAS Goal Keeper and poor finishing in front of goal kept the score line the same till half time.

FMR Dragons- 6 v Geographe Bay Stingers- 0

After a night of welcome rain a great day of soccer followed and the Dragons opened their 2012 season in fine style with a hard fought, convincing win against quality opposition.
After a solid start the home side went a goal up from the boot of Nathan Doig with a volley finish from a quality cross that will be hard to better. Nathan made great position all game and contributed hugely.
Our young defensive line were holding firm and Kai Grabner-Bond was solid between the posts showing a safe pair of hands.

Margaret River Glory 4 def. Cornerstone Crusaders 0
A sunny day and promising ground conditions awaited Margaret River Glory for their first U13 match of the 2012 season.
Undeterred by a late start, Glory settled into the game early in the first half and played a strong attacking game.
The Crusaders’ defence was challenged but they were successful in fending of Glory until the pressure became too much and a handball error forced them into a penalty situation.

The Margaret River Goblins played GMAS in there first game of the season and enjoyed the bright sunshine at home in Margaret River.
All players showed terrific skills and parents and spectators were treated an exciting game on both pitches.
Dunsborough Chargers 4 v Vasse United 2
Vasse United had gone through the league season undefeated. Dunsborough Chargers, after an indifferent first half of the season, improved during the second half, and by the time of the Grand Final had beaten all the other teams in the league except Vasse United. So the stage was set.
The battle of the giants: Would Vasse prevail and remain unbeaten throughout the season? Or could the Chargers do what no other team had done this season, beat Vasse and in so doing, lift the cup? The weather was perfect, the Dunsborough ground was in good condition and a sizeable crowd gave the occasion a carnival atmosphere.
The game started with both teams unwilling to give an inch. It was end to end stuff, with Dunsborough striking first. James Black found himself on the right in space and knocked in a pin-point cross that a soaring Tim Nigg headed firmly in to put Dunsborough 1-0 up. This rocked Vasse somewhat, but they didn’t take long to recover their composure, and were soon testing the Dunsborough defence with through balls from their midfield, superbly led by Shea Hayley.

LNJSA Knock-Out Cup Semi-Final Round Robin
Dunsborough Chargers 3 def Margaret River AllStars 0
The AllStars travelled to Busselton with confidence after having beaten both Cup opponents this season. The team missed fast winger Aaron Locke and midfielder Lewis Hayes. The game was played on the superb Churchill Park pitch but strong westerly’s and threatening heavy clouds dampened the spirits.
The team knew that the first game would be the decider in this round robin cup tournament and the focus was very much on countering Dunsborough’s forwards.
The Margaret River team however lost the toss and had to face the wind in the first half. Dunsborough combined beautifully, applying constant pressure onto the team in yellow.
The response from the AllStars was nervous, individual attempts that became increasingly futile. A long ball by Dunsborough opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Cade Thompson grabbed the ball only for it to be pushed out of his hands. Liam Shanahan came too late to stop the Dunsborough forward from kicking the loose ball into the back of the net.
