FMR Marlins v GMAS Cyclones
The Marlins were keen to start their second game of the season. They looked fantastic with their new jackets and uniforms.
They played some great soccer to start the match, the midfield of Jace, Sol and Annika were winning lots of tackles and providing the forwards James and Jim with lots of shots at goal. Carla made a great run on goal but was tackled just before shooting.
Jim scored a great goal after pressuring the GMAS defence and the Marlins went into half time full of confidence. Molly made some important saves in the Marlins goal when required and passed the ball out to our defenders really well.
At half time the Marlins talked about keeping our positions and passing around the GMAS team. Those instructions were executed perfectly in the second half and the team started to grow in confidence and move the ball around.
FMR Marlins v Vasse Falcons
The Marlins first game of the season was anticipated by players and parents alike!!!
The Vasse Falcons provided a stern test and the Marlins started brightly and even though there were a few first time players they soon settled helped by an early goal from Sol, a superb long range effort. Alex, Angus and Tomo provided solid defence.
James went in goal for the first half and he made one unbelievably brave save which unfortunately resulted in injury which meant Alex had to take the gloves. Sol was everywhere and combined well with Annika and Jace in midfield to keep the ball for Marlins and feed Jim and Molly in attack as the Marlins put the Falcons under pressure.

Cornerstone Titans V Margaret River Raiders
Well here it was, the last game of the season. Some say it goes too long but all of a sudden it’s over. Raiders travelled to Busselton to play Cornerstone it what would be a tight affair.
No Taj Thomas meant for a bit of a team shuffle. Liam Matto took charge between the sticks in the first half ,doing a great job in the process.
The Raiders kept the pressure on Cornerstone with solid battles in the midfield from Tom Leighton, Jykia River & Alice Atkinson along with Abby Slater continually making space on the right.
The Raiders were finding it hard to break down the Cornestone defence .Jasper Siesun made numerous runs down the left sending in some solid crosses using Aisha Atkinson well in the forward line .
Margaret River Raiders V Vasse Hawks
Saturday saw the Vasse hawks pay a visit to Margaret River, along with the forecast of some heavy rain. From the first two minutes of the game Raiders showed they meant business, with solid attacking and pressure on both player and ball.
Vasse put in a physical display but the girl power of Abby Slater and sisters Alice and Aisha Atkinson withstood everything thrown at them and showed they were no push overs.
Raiders scored their first goal with brilliant passing and skill. Liam Matto layed a through ball to Donnie Longmore , who took it to the line and cut it back to Jykia River. He then back heeled to himself and buried it in the net. Great stuff.
MR Raiders V Capel Wolves
Being winter you expect bad weather and low player numbers and then you hope they don’t happen on the same day, but sometimes they do. So began the day of the MR Raiders. Just 7 players before kickoff and shocking Busselton weather, but you wouldn’t think our kids knew that . Jasper arrived at the death to make it 8 and took on goal keeping responsibilities, Abby began defence with Alistar and Liam, Donnie and Alice midfield , Xavier and Aisha up front.
Raiders worked hard for the first half, keeping tight in position and good passing and running into space. Capel wolves went into half time with a 3 after some well finished goals.
Second half saw the Raiders battle hard with extra input from under8/9 Mirra & Coby ( great work for the help)and the whole team across the park. The hard work paid off with a goal after a build up from defence and a fine finish from Aisha.
Raiders Held their nerve until the end to keep the score tight and show they are still a force to be reckoned with. Thanks to all the team for putting in a spirited effort in the trying conditions.
Margaret River Raiders V Margaret River Glory
Saturday morning saw the two Margaret River U/11 ‘s come up against each other for the first time this year. Sometimes the kids find it hard to play against their friends but that wasn’t the case here.
From the start Raiders and the Glory displayed some great passages of play. Glory struck first with a well taken strike but great midfield running from Abby Slater ,Alice Atkinson and Alistar White saw the raiders receive a corner . Liam Mattinson took the kick and somehow it made it through the pack of players and the goalie and into the back of the net.
Glory took the lead again with another well finished shot.
Margaret River Tigers V Busselton Eagles
What another awesome effort from the Tigers. The game kicked off with some strong attacking with Olly pushing the ball into the offensive half and Zeb and the girls providing strong support. Aniela had a solid shot at goal which was blocked by the Eagles goaly showing that we were the team to be beaten. Kobi was impressive in defense and fought hard to keep the ball with the Tigers.
A goal sneaked past impressive 1st half Keeper Mitchell to, but two very impressive saves stopped the strong attack by the Eagles.
With the help of Quin, who joined us for the day, Kobi and Quin fought together to even the score with an incredible goal with ‘Beckham like’ aerial skills.
Margaret River Raiders v’s Busselton Cougars
Raiders welcomed the Cougars to a windy Western oval for what was to be a tough encounter ahead. First half saw both teams battle hard and create chances . The Raiders had the better of these but just couldn’t get the ball into the net. Solid work in the back from Pascoe Paice kept the visitors quiet. 0-0 at the break.
The talk at halftime was to use the space we were creating and put more pressure on the ball carrier. This seemed to work as our forwards of Aisha Atkinson, Donnie Longmore and Xavier Nikulinsky forced Cougars to make mistakes. Finally Raiders were rewarded with 3 goals in the last 5 minutes.
Liam Mattinson drilled one home after a scramble in the box then Alice Atkinson with her first goal of the season, shot calmly to make it 2 . But the best was saved to last when Liam scored a beauty after a well worked corner with Taj Thomas. Great stuff Raiders.
Aisha received players award for hard work in attack. Again this was another great team performance with everybody putting in 100%.
MR Tigers v’s Busselton Nipsters
Today the Tigers showed their stripes with aggressive attacking by Mira in the first half and consistent defence in the second half. She was well supported by the girls in the forward line, their running and kicking helped keep the ball forward. Kobi and Reif were intercepting, dribbling and attacking well to put two scores on the board.
Fantastic defence by Mitchell and the rest of the back line kept The Busselton Nipsters scoring to a single goal.
It was wonderful to see the team working together as a tight unit to set up their first victory.
WELL DONE TIGERS
Dunsborough Rangers V Margaret River Raiders
Not everything goes your way in sport, and today was one of those days. Raiders travelled to Dunsborough to play an inform Rangers team. From the start Raiders were up against it and were down to an early goal.
By half time Raiders were down but not out thatks to thefforts of Taj Thomas in goals .He constantly put his body on the line with some fantastic saves.
Second half saw the whole Raiders team battle hard and fought hard against their toughest opposition to date. With solid tackling and hard running from Alistar White(players award), strong ball work up front by Aisha Atkinson, and determination from Jykia River.
They all really stood up to the Rangers today and can be proud of another team display. Well done.
MR Raiders v GMAS Rockets
Two days of rain had no effect on an enthusiastic Raiders team. Raiders began strongly, and were unlucky not to score from the kickoff. Both teams settled early but it was the Raiders who scored first after a in-direct free kick was awarded for a Rockets handball. Liam Mattinson scored from the ensuing kick.
Second half Raiders came out firing and again nearly scored from the restart but the crowd didn’t have to wait long for a second goal. Starting in defence, then through string of great passes, a deft touch from Aisha Atkinson ,and finally a nice finish from Donnie Longmore.
A third was added after another team build up and a nice finish from Liam , his second of the day but it was the Raiders fourth which brought the crowd to their feet.
Jykia River , playing in goals the first half then pushing into the forward line in the second ,made a great run through the mid field, and with persistence managed to score for his first goal for the club. Great stuff!!
Abbey Slater received players award for her hard work at training and during the game. Once again another stellar team performance. well done.
MR Raiders V Cornerstone Titans
Raiders travelled to Busselton for the first away game of the season to play a strong Titans outfit.
First half saw quite a physical display from both teams with solid challenges and commitment to the ball. Alistar White, playing up front for the first time, was unlucky not to score with his strike hitting the post.
Raiders played strong across the back and marked their players tight, in the process delivering some beautiful balls to the midfield. Unfortunately Raiders attack were unable to break down the Titans backline and the score remained 0-0 at the break. Second half a pumped up Raiders put on magnificent team display .
M/R Raiders v St. Joes Thunder
Great weather, perfect pitch and a full team of players. What a way to start the season. All we needed was a good game. Raiders were up for this from the start and got stuck in from the kickoff.
Xavier Nikulinsky playing his first game of soccer showed good touch on the ball from the onset, laying off some nice passes to the midfield and forwards. Another first timer Tom Leighton also ran hard and found himself always in the thick of it.
Unfortunately Raiders found themselves down early in the first half, but rallied well to keep it that way to half time.

St Joes Mackillop 6 vsVasse Hawks 1
A much awaited top of the table clash between St Joes Mackillop U11’s and Vasse Hawks U11’s did not disappoint fans on Saturday with the prize being Premiership League Champions for 2010. St Joes have a reputation for disciplined attacking moves and opened up with two early goals in the first 10 minutes of play.
Vasse star defender Sam Patton was under pressure with wave after wave of determined St Joes strikers led by best on ground Will Culnane hammering the goal area. Goalkeeper Tyler Atkinson hit his straps and nullified many goal scoring opportunites throughout the first half. The second half had Vasse hold their shape with gun forward Tait Spowart powering forward on a number of occasions but unable to convert. However, it was golden boot Ethan Piggott who belted through a shoulder high bomb just inside the penalty area to gain some respectability for the beleaguered Vasse team.
First year player Olivia Rynvis and a much improved Mitch Snow and Somer Palandri fought like demons all day but St Joes had the edge over the young Vasse side.
The final score line was 6 - 1 to St Joes , a well deserved win for the Premiership League Champions 2010. Congratulations.
Capel 6 vs BSN Sharks 1
Saturday saw Capel host Busselton Soccer Club in the under 11’s. Both teams came out of the blocks pumped up for their final group game of the season.
After a shaky start (probably due to Busselton’s pressure) the Wolves soon consolidated their position and began to control the game. Having another best on ground performance goalkeeper Jack Herbert was rock solid pulling off some wonderful saves. He was helped by a defense which went from strength to strength as the game progressed.
Midfielders: Rachel Rance, Claire Kelly-Gardiner, and Courtney G, fought tenaciously for possession and with Josh Lewis Taylor Barr and Daniel Lewis all scoring the game ended with a pleasing 6-1 result. The Wolves showed that they will not be easy beats as the competition hots up now, with the top five teams playing against each other in the next few weeks.
Well done guys and keep up the level of intensity and commitment you have shown so far. Thanks Busselton for a fair and enjoyable game.
